Please use these topics as a guideline if you are doing any extra work with your child at home.
Reading: Students should be reading for at least 20 minutes per night and talking about what they have read. They should focus on using independent reading strategies and can orally retell the story and make connections to what they have read.
Writing: Students are working on letter writing. Have your child write a friendly letter to a friend or family member. Be sure they include a purpose at the beginning of their letter as well as the 5 parts of a letter they have learned in class (heading, greeting, body, closing, signature).
Science: Our focus in science is on forces causing movement.
Here are our 'big ideas' that we will be learning about throughout this unit:
1. There are several types of forces that cause movement.
2. Forces cause objects to speed up, slow down, or change direction through direct contact or through interaction at a distance.
3. Forces in nature, such as high winds or water, can have a significant impact on humans and the environment, and need to be regarded with respect
The students science project is due on Friday, January 15th. Be sure to check out the links in the Websites to Visit section for some ideas and inspiration.
Math: Students have been collecting data by taking surveys and organizing that data using charts. Then, the have been displaying their information in horizontal and vertical bar graphs. In the upcoming days, we will be learning how to display information using pictographs. The students are strongly encouraged to use Prodigy to extend their learning and understanding of this topic.
